Roger Foley’s Winter Photography

February 17, 2010

I’m sure we’ve all taken pictures of all the snow by now, but I’m also sure our collective snapshots don’t amount to THIS:

All photography by Roger Foley

Landscape photographer Roger Foley, who lives within jogging distance of us in Arlington, told me he would send me some of his snaps from our recent snowstorms. The picture above is the result of him trudging through the snow to Four Mile Run. Honestly? My camera just doesn’t do this stuff.

Roger also went out to the National Arboretum, “a gorgeous place most people in our area have never seen, even in warm weather. Would you have thought these pix were taken in NE DC?” he wrote in an e-mail.

Check it out:

I mean, can you even believe these pictures were taken in our own back yard? If you want to see some more of his landscape photos, take a look at his new book, A Clearing in the Woods, which features a handful of DC gardens in this compendium of contemporary landscape photography.

It’s definitely worth a place on your coffee table!

So glad to meet you today and thanks for sharing about Roger Foley’s photography — beautiful. That first picture is so captivating, like surreal floating snow puffs. The arboretum is one of my favorite places in DC. I look forward to seeing more of his photos in his book. — Ashley

Just beautiful. Living near Four Mile Run in the past, I had no idea how magical and stunning it looks with so much snow. What a talent and gift he has. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for ending on a bright cheery spring photo that will be sure to give many hope, spring is on it’s way. xo

[…] Roger’s been shooting gardens and landscapes for years, and I’m lucky to call him a neighbor here in Arlington. (In fact, I blogged about the photos he took after that last major snowstorm, right in his back yard.) […]

The amazing thing about the #uscapitol is that we enjoy the same beauty as the generations before us. Our fashions might change, but not the glorious encaustic tile, gilded mirrors or the clover-like pendant lights in the Senate Press Gallery. Swipe to see the modern version, shot by @ronbluntphoto.

CONGRATULATIONS to Michele Lerner for her award from the Nation Association of Real Estate Editors on a @washingtonpost story about bringing the outdoors inside, which features our bathroom renovation by @aidandesign ! The judges wrote: “She finds the perfect couple to illustrate the theme of her story. They lie by a nature trail, so they wanted to add natural stone to the shower.” Great story Michele, and it was a pleasure to speak to you!
