Editors are busy, and don’t have endless hours to spend assigning and editing stories. With more than 25 years of experience in both daily and magazine journalism, I don’t need much direction; my work is clean and on time; and I always hit the word count.
Having been an editor for HGTV and Food Network publications, and also for Luxe Interiors + Design, I know what drove me crazy with freelancers, so as a writer, I do everything I can to avoid those pain points, such as:
- asking editors to find information that I can obtain for myself;
- not communicating sufficiently if a problem arises on an assignment;
- turning in a story that’s poorly written or needs significantly more information or sourcing.
