Maybe it’s the fact that my Mom owns no less than six sets of it (including a special Christmas set from Tiffany), but I’ve always loved china. If I had room in my house for six sets (or more), I would certainly have that many, too.
But it’s what designers are able to do with that china—and silver, and crystal, and flowers, and linens—that really turns a table into a stage set.
That’s why you have to go to the Chevy Chase Bloomingdale’s THIS THURSDAY, MARCH 14, to see two of my favorite design pros, Joe Ireland and Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey, work their magic with new tableware lines from Scalamandre, Oscar de la Renta and (DC native!) Michael Aram. They will be using gorgeous H. Bloom florals for a fresh finishing touch.

If you buy anything at this spring’s event, 10 percent will to go help City Wildlife, an animal rescue and rehab center in DC.
Here’s a peek from the new spring lines that might end up on Joe and Shazalynn’s tables:
Oscar de la Renta, whose new tableware line was inspired by his retreat at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, was featured recently in Architectural Digest, which ran these yummy photos:
Michael Aram has several new offerings for Spring, including these amazing candlesticks:
I also love these stark “Cast Iron” plates:
Which would go wonderfully with the “Black Orchid” tableware:
Scalamandre is best known for its fabrics, which are an interior designer’s domain. So Joe and Shazalynn might enjoy using these textile-inspired designs:

Last but not least, of course, will be arrangements from H. Bloom, the coolest new DC florist on the block:
So if you’ve got the shopping bug, go to Bloomingdale’s for this event. Here’s the info:
When: Thursday, March 14, 6-8 pm
Where: Bloomingdale’s, 5300 Western Ave., Chevy Chase
Who: Joe Ireland, Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey, H. Bloom
What: New spring tableware lines from Oscar de la Renta, Michael Aram and Scalamandre.
I love the silverware by Oscar.
The Scalmandre china is beautiful! Makes me want to throw a dinner party just to show it off.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
