This is not just another white kitchen. Yes, it’s got the marble counters, white custom cabinetry, white trim, white sink, and white-paneled fridge and oven hood, but this Chevy Chase space, designed by Jan Goldman of Kitchen Elements, exudes soul through colorful, handmade touches.
The runners, cookware and pottery, not to mention the bold ikat pattern on the banquette, combine to create an artistic setting that pops from the white background.
As Jan describes it, her clients wanted an updated, gourmet kitchen with space for a 48-inch range and a walk-in pantry. Because the existing kitchen was too small,
the new kitchen was relocated to an adjacent room that was bigger yet underused. The new location is also more central to the rest of the house, providing a lovely view from the foyer. An outdated powder room adjoining the new kitchen space was then repurposed into the desired panty, which you can just see through a glass-paned door on the right of the top picture.
Remember the old kitchen space next door? The one that looked like this?
Well, it’s been transformed into this gorgeous breakfast room—a true rebirth:
Thanks to Jan for sharing this stunning before and after. Her clients must be over the moon!
