Even though the seven units at EastBanc’s 1055 High sold out in three weeks earlier this year, the developer treated the press Tuesday to a “Socks Only” party to see what their buyers will be getting with these units, ranging from 3,470 to over 4,300 square feet, which cost between $3.75 million and over $5.5 million. I was wearing flats with no socks, however, so barefoot it was. Too bad I didn’t get a proper pedicure.
Designer Tom Pheasant was with us today, walking through with a client who had purchased one of the units, as was the showroom manager for Donghia, which furnished the public spaces.
But for now, the spaces only provide palette for the imagination as to what might come.
Even though the units are bare, it was the views that were astounding (and the reason for these astronomical prices). Rarely do you get a vantage point in Georgetown where you can see all around, from the river to the canal, and upwards to M Street and Georgetown University.

My husband Jim (below), who was off today and came along for the ride, expressed concern for the bathroom, however—another great view, but do you really want people to see inside when you’re getting ready in the morning?
No matter. I’m sure the likes of Tom Pheasant and the other designers who will no doubt come in to decorate these units will cover these windowscapes with beautiful fabrics.
Upstairs, one can capture a more vivid appreciation for the surroundings—even on a cold, rainy day.
My favorite view was down to the courtyard of the neighboring Grace Episcopal Church. Look closely, and you can see the Kennedy Center to the right of the smokestack, which now belongs to the Ritz Carlton.

So that’s it for now. Looks like there’s no going back in, unless I can befriend a new owner—a good resolution for 2015!
